This Year's Model Updates:

The Grand Cherokee is all new for 2005. Among the improvements are new four-wheel-drive systems, an independent front suspension, three excellent engine options and better ergonomics and build quality.

Pros:
  • Strong engine lineup, unmatched off-road ability, balanced handling, long list of advanced safety equipment, solid warranty.
Cons:
  • Hard plastic interior surfaces could use some padding, less cargo capacity than most midsize SUVs.

  • The Best Jeep Yet! - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This is a great vehicle. Very solid feel and very quiet. Excellent Boston stereo. Excellent exterior and very good interior. Nice "thud" when you shut the door. Build quality seems very good.

  • Very happy with my 3rd Grand Cherokee - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Excellent vehicle! I purchased a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited with a Hemi in 2009 with only 38K miles on it. Got a great deal and moved up to now my 3rd JGC. Others being 1997 and 2003. I drove 20K in the first year with zero problems. Only money spent was on maintenance. I have purchased all my Jeeps a few years old to wait out the steep drop in value. I got a $42K car 4 years old in new condition for $17K. I added the best and longest extended warranty and love driving it every day. Of course the gas mileage is awful. It has a 5.7 L Hemi engine. We all know this going in.

  • mpg going down - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This is my first Jeep and I think it is a great vehicle. When I first got it the computer said I was getting 19.2 mpg. around town. Now my tail pipe is black with soot and the best I can get is 17 on the highway. Took it to the dealer; they told me it was the way I drive and I put cheap gas in it. There was nothing wrong. If the problem does not hit them in the head they will not look for it. Service department stinks just like most dealerships. I only have 2500 miles on it. The mpg should have gotten better. Outside of that I highly recommend the grand Cherokee. It is night and day over the 2004.

  • 3 months later... - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I have owned my Jeep for 3 months now and I have over 5000 miles on it. I love my Jeep just as much as I did when I bought it in September. Ive noticed that the ride has gotten a little jittery, but nothing unbearable. The performance is pretty good, but the fuel economy has dropped in the winter months to the mid 15 mpg. The lowest I have gotten was 13.8 ... best on HWY is 17. Its a blast in the snow! Legroom a little tight in the rear, especially behind the driver seat.

  • GREAT TRUCK! - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

My second Jeep in two years. Better then the last one! Just went up to Big Bear California. Did great in the snow and rain, also took it out to Glamis Sand Dunes. Does well in the sand too! Rides great, looks great, new Boston Sound system is better the the old Infinity.

  • Love the Hemi 4x4 - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I bought my Limited 4x4 Hemi new on 10/30/05 and have driven 10,700 miles of highway and offroad (sand, dirt, mud). It has been reliable, with warranty replacement of the amplifier. The check engine light comes on every now and then, but has been repaired by the dealer (reprogram computer). I like the power, clean looks, and simplicity. Previously I drove a Corvette and a Ford Expedition. The Hemi provides Jeep with an SUV that has sports car power. It handles mud, sand, and gravel just fine. The gauges, controls, etc. are easy to use. Im not extreme -- just like to take it to the beach and mild offroad trails. I also considered the Toyota 4Runner, but wanted the Hemi. No regrets.

  • A new JGC Driver - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I have never owned a Jeep and have driven just a few but this newJeep Grand Cherokee Limited was on my picks list for SUVs. It has a well cut SUV appearance with a Hemi to back it up without being oversized. Jeep Grand Cherokee has the history of being a great reliable ride and I am told will only improve with the snow. My two young kids love the DVD and the NAV system is a fun gadget that (so far) has got me to various tough to find golf courses without a hitch. The Hemi is a BONUS which makes this ride a lot of fun from the drivers seat. Just realize poor gas mileage is dependent on your youthful right foot. I also feel safe in this vehicle and can see around me with ease. Bottom line: My celebrated SUV pick.

  • 3rd X a charm...hopefully: tran trouble - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

In 2006 we bought an 05 Laredo (18K mi) because we needed a bigger car after having 2nd baby. I had to have it, always wanted a Jeep Cherokee. Not 10 months later transmission had to be rebuilt. 10 months later again, transmission had to be replaced. Both times under warranty, but I have a feeling work was already done, before we got it. 1 year later we are having same problem: leaking fluid and starting to shift hard, taking it in for third time in less than 3 years. Never ever buying a Jeep again, for that matter any Chrysler-Daimler make.

  • my fourth Cherokee - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Looks good, and is comfortable. The gas mileage is poor (I had the 4.7l in my previous one, which got 2 mpg better); head clearance is awful if youre 59" or above, and to make matters worse they removed the 6-way power seat and put in a 4-way so that you cant lower the seat height. The four wheel drive is suspect (I have gotten it stuck twice already). Jeep has sacrificed little comforts also such as removing the sun visor extensions which is annoying, but that "trail rated" badge sure is nifty. Forget changing your own oil, or doing other "minor repairs" unless you have a garage with a lift, and a degree from MIT. Somewhere jeep has lost its identity to the soccer moms. Good luck.

  • Oh the gas mileage... - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Got the Hemi, because for $1,200 it is a no-brainer. But man is the gas mileage awful. Quick for a vehicle this size. Interior redesign is well thought out. Ride quality is good...the thing is UNBELIEVABLE in the snow - better than expected. For the price, it is the best buy in its market segment.
